Technolution was the main contractor for the mobility project of Copenhagen 2025: the city’s ambitious plan to achieve carbon neutrality in 2025. Together with Danish partners and in close collaboration with the city, we developed a number of mobility-related smart city solutions. A smart city offers a better quality of life for its residents, commuters and visitors – its users – by providing more living space, better transport, less energy usage and CO2 emissions, without affecting the existing infrastructure and technology. For Copenhagen, we developed app-guided eco driving, variable message signs for cyclists, intelligent street lighting that adapts to passing traffic, and a number of other smart applications. The connecting element is our traffic management platform MobiMaestro, which also has an important role in optimizing the traffic flows in Copenhagen.

The smart city solutions we implemented in Copenhagen work well together to stimulate cycling in the city center, reduce the energy consumption, prevent traffic jams and reduce overall carbon emissions. One of these solutions is GreenCatch, a mobile phone app that advises road users to speed up or slow down in order to catch the next green light. The app knows when the next traffic light will turn green. The system works for cyclists, motorists, public transport as well as for truck drivers.

At a higher level, Copenhagen uses MobiMaestro for complete control of the traffic flows through and around the city. With MobiMaestro, traffic managers can adjust traffic light settings on the fly, activate scenarios to improve traffic flow on the city roads and corridors, and provide road users with real-time information through dynamic road information signs.
