22 Facts about the most anticipated ITS Event of the year! 

  1. The City of Copenhagen is hosting the ITS World Congress on 17-21 September 2018 at Bella Center Copenhagen. This is the largest international congress for intelligent transport systems (ITS)
  2. The City of Copenhagen expects to welcome up to 4,000 delegates, including business managers, researchers, developers and international decision-makers
  3. The congress is comprised of an exhibition, demonstration projects and tests of ITS solutions, a number of visits and a technical/scientific programme
  4. The congress will have a large exhibition area of 25000 square meters and expects to see some 10,000 attendees and 400 exhibitors. 80 percent of the exhibition area has already been sold out
  5. Hosting the congress is a unique opportunity to showcase new Danish transport solutions, research findings and technological expertise, as well as products and services from Danish companies, and it is the hope that the Congress will lead to growth and increased exports within green mobility solutions
  6. ITS solutions provide the answer to some of the world’s most pressing and topical challenges, such as climate change, air quality, urbanisation, congestion and traffic safety
  7. In Copenhagen’s Climate Plan the target is to make the city completely carbon neutral by 2015 and to create a liveable, green and healthy city with the help of green, sustainable transport solutions. ITS can assist in fulfilling this ambition
  8. The following technical topics have been selected for the ITS World Congress:
    1. Mobility Services – from transport to mobility to liveability
    2. ITS and the environment
    3. Connected, cooperative and automated transport
    4. Next generation goods delivery
    5. Satellite technology applied to mobility
    6. Transport networks evolution.
    7. Cross Border Solutions – “Host Topic”
  1. The technical/scientific programme encompass three plenary sessions, 12 executive sessions, 91 special interest sessions and 80 technical and 11 scientific sessions
  2. It is the European Program Committee, EPC, and the International Program Committee, IPC, that organise the programme for the congress
  3. The Committee has received 700 papers for review from 46 countries and 200 special interest session applications from 23 countries
  4. A unique Nordic section will be set up in the exhibition area, called the “Nordic Stream”. Nordic ITS solutions will also be a red tread throughout the technical/scientific programme
  5. As an entirely new happening in the history of ITS World Congresses, the ITS world Congress in Copenhagen will unveil an exhibition space exclusively dedicated to start-ups called “AREA C – Startup Connector”, where new ventures can apply for a space no later than 11 July 2018. AREA C – Startup Connector only has 30 spaces available. Many of the technical/scientific sessions also involve a focus on startups and entrepreneurship
  6. During the congress week, on Tuesday 18 September, a High-Level Policy Round Table is held where ministers and mayors from the world over attend and discuss ITS and future transport solutions
  7. There will be a number of prominent speakers at the Congress, such as European Commissioner for Mobility and Transport Violeta Bulc, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel, the UN special delegation on traffic safety, President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, Jean Todt and many others.
  8. 17 technical visits have been selected, which delegates can visit during the congress
  9. 15 demonstration projects have been selected, which will be tested and showcased during the congress week, herein self-driving shuttle busses, automated taxis, and interactive traffic information for cyclists via a screen on the bike and Bluetooth headphones
  10. It is possible to form a commercial partnership with ITS World Congress 2018. As of now, partnerships with Sund & Bælt, The Capital Region of Denmark, Itron, Citelum, Technolution, Swarco, Rambøll, Here, Saphe, Catapult, Valeo, Kapsch and Dynniq. The Danish Industry Foundation is supporting the ITS World Congress 2018
  11. The congress has a number of Goodwill Ambassadors. The Ambassadors are leaders from all the different spheres of the transportation sector
  12. The ITS World Congress 2018 is organised by ERTICO – ITS EUROPE in Brussels in collaboration with the host city, the City of Copenhagen; the European Commission; ITS America; and ITS Asia-Pacific
  13. The ITS World Congress rotates between Europe, the Asia Pacific region, and the Americas, returning to Europe every three years, during which ERTICO – ITS Europe, is the key organiser
  14. The Congress will be in Singapore in 2019, Los Angeles in 2020, and in Hamburg in 2021
