Improving lives with ITS
With the theme “ITS – Quality of Life”, the 25th ITS World Congress will look at how the industry as a whole can contribute to a higher quality of life by improving liveability, making the surrounding environment greener and lowering congestion.
The City of Copenhagen has ambitious goals when it comes to creating a green and liveable city. The city aims to become carbon-neutral by 2025 and is constantly focusing on how to create quality of life for the people living in Copenhagen. ITS is employed to find solutions for a greener and more sustainable city with a cleaner and healthier environment to live in.
At the ITS World Congress 2018 in Copenhagen, the city will bring into display the green mobility solutions which are being implemented in the city. As one of the world’s best cities for cyclists, Copenhagen has put a lot of effort in making cycling more attractive to everyone by initiatives such as variable message signs for cyclists. The signs give important information to the cyclists and hence make their travel easier, quicker and more pleasant.
One of the newest inventions for the future of green mobility is Mobility as a Service (MaaS). At the ITS World Congress in Copenhagen, attendees will have the opportunity to use a new MaaS app, called “MinRejseplan”, which has been developed especially for the congress. The app will provide free public transportation to all delegates for the trains, metro, buses, and harbor-ferries, as well as give information on private transportation options such as taxis and bicycle-sharing.
The combination of private and public transportation advice in one app is completely new, and at the congress the app will be a demonstration project that delegates can test and evaluate. The testing will therefore be a step into the future of Mobility as a Service and travelers in Copenhagen will be lucky enough to keep the app, and the congress will most definite be a lever to export the app to other cities and countries worldwide.
